George Washington Carver National Park

📍Where in the world is Déja? 🌎✨ — Diamond, Missouri 🇺🇸

Happy Black History Month! On our cross-country road trip from Indiana to California, we saw signs mentioning a George Washington Carver National Park coming ahead. Neither I nor @brucerants knew such a thing even existed, but we decided to take a detour and check it out. & What a great decision! Diamond, MO is home to the birthplace of George Washington Carver, the most prominent black scientist of the early 20th century. They have a small museum that gives insight into his life (especially interesting since he was born enslaved, was freed, and then went on to college) and some of his amazing achievements. You can walk around the park and view his original home, a memorial statue (pictured here), and the cemetery his parents are buried in, among others things. And being a National Park, you can take in the beauties of nature as well (swipe left to see a little butterfly friend we made). — Have you made any impromptu stops on a trip? How’d it go?
