Kura Hulanda Museum

📍Where in the world is Déja? 🌎✨ — Willemstad, Curaçao 🇨🇼

Happy Black History Month! The Kura Hulanda Museum is a must see on a trip to Curaçao. The musuem helps visitors to really understand the African and diverse cultural heritage that has influenced Curaçaoan society. One well known exhibit shows the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in its totality; it even has remains from a slave trade ship that visualize the tight quarters and harsh conditions slaves were forced to endure. Through various art mediums and artifacts, the museum shows the breakdown of the slave capture in Africa through the Middle Passage and the relocation in the New World (swipe left to see the timeline). The coolest artifact to me was the Curaçaoan Emancipation Proclamation, written in both Dutch and Papiamentu (native language of Curaçao), which freed slaves on July 1, 1863. — Have you visited African museums in countries outside of the US? What’d you think?
